Dehumidifiers come in all shapes and sizes. It will depend on your application which is going to your best dehumidifier solution. For small rooms, particularly bathrooms and bedrooms, a small, compact dehumidifier is perfect. These are usually portable dehumidifiers, so it’s easy to move them from one room to another.
This review is going to offer a huge variety of compact dehumidifiers for small rooms and confined spaces. Tabletop, or countertop dehumidifiers can be used in virtually any situation, provided you don’t need a large capacity. A small room, means less cubic feet and that’s what compact dehumidifiers are designed for.
Why You Need a Small Dehumidifier
Even though a bathroom may be small, it will have high levels of humidity. If it is not controlled, excessive moisture in the air is going to lead to mold. Not only will this mean an unpleasant musty odor, but mold is the cause of several health disorders and aggravates allergies.
Confined spaces, like a bathroom without a vent, or a closet, need a small compact dehumidifier that will effectively remove the moisture in the air. A single room, even a small apartment, may be a larger area, but with less concentrated humidity. So a compact dehumidifiers has many applications for the home or business, and also great for RVs and trailers.
Having considered all these situations, we realize that compact dehumidifiers are not all used for the same purpose. Whatever your needs, or budget, there will certainly be the perfect model for you amongst our lineup of the best dehumidifiers for small rooms and confined spaces.
1. Pro Breeze Electric Mini Dehumidifier
One can’t help but wonder if the Pro Breeze Mini Dehumidifier and the hOmeLabs equivalent come from the same factory. They look almost identical with just about the same the specs and features.
The only distinction I can find between the Pro Breeze and hOmeLabs mini dehumidifiers is that Pro Breeze specify an 18-ounce water tank, whereas hOmeLabs specify theirs at 16-ounces. This makes the Pro Breeze a little less compact, 7” X 6” X 11”. The weight is basically the same at 2.6 ounces. The minor difference in dimensions is not all that noticeable, and this is most certainly a portable, countertop dehumidifier.
Apart from this I see no significant difference between the Pro Breeze and hOmeLabs compact dehumidifier. The Pro Breeze uses a similar Peltier thermoelectric system and is, therefore, just as quiet and energy efficient. It also removes 9-ounces of moisture per day and has the same auto shutoff with a warning light for when the water tank is full.
The controls are the same for both machines, the on-off switch fitted to the Pro Breeze even looks the same as that of the hOmeLabs dehumidifier.
So, from what I can see, you’re paying a little extra for the Pro Breeze and, in return, you’re getting an ounce more waste water capacity. Some may prefer the Pro Breeze brand, but I don’t really see the difference. This model has a 1-year warranty, whereas the cheaper option from hOmeLabs has a 2-year warranty. While I don’t quite see the sense in buying the Pro Breeze, when the hOmeLabs model is virtually the same (but cheaper), there are many who don’t agree with this. The Pro Breeze mini dehumidifier is extremely popular and, for this reason, we had to include it in our review of the best compact dehumidifiers.
2. Afloia Mini Dehumidifier
Rated by the manufacturer as a mid-sized dehumidifier, the Afloia Mini has a slightly higher capacity than the smallest dehumidifiers. It is a little larger and heavier than the really small machines, but is still easily portable and suitable for bathrooms, closets, campers, and any other area where a compact dehumidifier is essential. Almost, inaudible, it is also perfect for bedrooms.
This is an elegant appliance, measuring 9.8” X 7.1” X 11.8”, at a weight of 4.6 pounds. The water tank is suitably large with an impressive 52 ounce capacity. The Afoia will shutoff automatically when the tank is full and has a warning light to let know that it’s time to empty the tank. It is also very effective for such a small dehumidifier, rated for an area of 2,200 cubic feet. Energy efficiency is up there with some of the best, the power rating is 75W.
The Afloia mini dehumidifier is so quiet, you won’t notice it – 30dB. It also has an air purification function. There are no fancy controls, and this is a simple appliance to use.
Amongst the best compact dehumidifiers, the Afloia has a fairly high capacity with a water tank that is way above average in size. It is highly effective and wonderfully quiet. All of this makes it a very practical solution.
3. Eva-dry E-333 Renewable Mini Dehumidifier
The Eva-dry E-333 renewable dehumidifier is the perfect solution for storage units and other confined spaces where you might want to leave your dehumidifier for extended periods, unattended. It requires no electric power to function, not even batteries, and does not have a water tank that needs to be emptied.
By using renewable silica gel, the unique little Eva-dry does not heat the air. Instead, the moisture is absorbed and contained within the gel. It can be left for up to a month, before the gel needs renewal. Though it doesn’t have a huge moisture capacity, so a month would be a stretch in most cases. When the dehumidifier reaches the maximum, 4 – 6 ounce capacity, the silica gel crystals change color form orange to red.
A window at the front of the machine, allows you to easily check the color of the crystals. When they turn green, you simply plug the Eva-dry E-333 into an electric outlet and leave it for 8 to 10 hours. A small, low-energy heat pad dries and revitalizes the crystals. The dehumidifier will then be ready to start the whole process over again. It will continue doing so for up to 10-years.
The magnificently simple design, makes this one of the most compact dehumidifiers for confined spaces. It measures a mere 9” X 8.2” X 2.9” with a weight of only 1.2 pounds. This is a small unit and is rated for a maximum area of 10 X 10 feet. For a closet or gun safe, it is an ideal, very economical and practical dehumidifier.
Delightfully cheap and easy to use, the Eva-dry E-333 dehumidifier is also perfectly safe around kids and pets. It’s small enough to use in a confined space without getting in the way and comes with an excellent 5-year warranty.
4. Afloia Electric Home Dehumidifier 700ML
This is a very affordable, delightfully compact dehumidifier for a small room, closet or RV. Although, small, it has a reasonable capacity and is also one of the most energy efficient dehumidifiers around. Not to mention, exceptionally quiet.
The Afloia (700 ML) compact dehumidifier is specified for about 11 ounces of moisture removal per day. The water tank is also very conveniently sized, 24-ounces. It will run for a good length of time (2-days or more) before the tank reaches maximum capacity. Like the others, this dehumidifier will shut down when the tank is full and a warning light will ignite.
It uses only 23 watts of power, making it about as energy efficient as it gets and is one of the quietest at 35dBA. Measuring only 6.4” X 4.2” X 10.5” (weight: 2.68 LBS), it is as compact and portable as anyone could possibly hope for.
For its price and extremely low electricity usage, this must be one of the most economical compact dehumidifiers there is. With a really great capacity for its size, this Afloia model is an absolutely delightful humidifier for small spaces. True value for money.
5. hOmeLabs Small Space Dehumidifier
The hOmeLabs mini dehumidifier is definitely small enough to be a convenient countertop solution. It is ultra-economical, both in its low price and low energy consumption. The hOmeLabs small space dehumidifier is also blissfully quiet and, therefore, perfect for a small bedroom.
By using a Peltier thermoelectric module, the hOmeLabs mini dehumidifier uses minimal electric current and is 25W ETL certified. This also makes it one of the quietest dehumidifiers around.
It is rated for areas of 150 sq. ft., removing 9-ounces of water per day. For its compact design, the hOmeLabs Small Space dehumidifier has a pretty large water tank – 16 ounces. So it can be left for up to 2-days without the need to empty the water reservoir. This could be much longer if you don’t experience high humidity levels. . When the tank is full, the hOmeLabs dehumidifier will shutoff and an LED warning light will alert you to this.
Controls are basic and definitely uncomplicated. An on-off switch is all you need to contend with. There are no timer or automatic functions. The unit measures 6.5” X 5.3” X 8.5” and weighs only 2.6 LBS, making it a totally portable dehumidifier.
Perfect for small rooms, closets, and bathrooms, the hOmeLabs compact dehumidifier is inexpensive, uncomplicated and very energy efficient. Despite being a cheap product, it is covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
6. 1byone Electric Mini Dehumidifier
There are two immediate attractions that become apparent when considering the 1byone mini dehumidifier. The first, has to be the incredible price. The other would be the minute size for its capacity. It matches most of the small room dehumidifiers in this review, when looking at moisture removal capacity, but is noticeably smaller. For a confined space, like closet or gun safe, this little (extremely compact) dehumidifier is the perfect product.
The 1byone measures only 6.65” X 4.92” X 8.46” and weighs a mere 2.16 pounds. You shouldn’t have a problem fitting this dehumidifier into the smallest of spaces. Don’t be fooled by its compact design, the 1byone mini dehumidifier can handle around 6 Oz of moisture per day and has a pretty large, 14 Oz water tank. As is to be expected, the machine will switch off when the water tank is full and it has a full water warning light.
It uses the thermoelectric Peltier system, common to most compact dehumidifiers for small rooms. This means it is an energy efficient and quiet machine. I was surprised to see that it received a fairly low star rating on Amazon. This is despite its massive popularity. Upon some investigation, I discovered that several users had experienced out-of-box failures. This does not bode too well. Perhaps these guys have some quality control issues. This isn’t too uncommon for such a remarkably cheap product.
My mind was put, somewhat, at ease when I looked at their return and warranty policy. The manufacturer offers a 90-day full refund guarantee and a 2-year warranty. So those unfortunate few who did not receive their 1byone dehumidifier in good working condition had ample opportunity to redress the situation. I’m never too fond of really cheap products, but a guarantee and warranty like this, does help restore one’s confidence. Its huge popularity may be, in part, due to the low price. But when all is said and done, this is a remarkable little dehumidifier for its size (and price).
7. Hysure Electric Dehumidifier
In my opinion, we’ve left the best for last. The Hysure portable dehumidifier is not the cheapest. But it’s abundantly clear that you’re getting what you pay for. In terms of physical size, it compares favorably to any of the compact dehumidifiers in this review. Though when you look at its capacity, both water removal and tank size, it’s astounding what these guys have achieved.
The Hysure dehumidifier uses thermoelectric Peltier technology, like most of the others. But this is one more powerful than most compact dehumidifiers. Rated at 70W, it’s not a massive energy consumer, yet it outperforms most similar products. The Hysure removes a really impressive 1.6 pints (25.6 Oz) per day and the tank holds an equally great 4.2 pints (67 Oz). This is quite mind blowing, when you consider its size – 8.9” X 5.9” X 14.7”.
The Hysure has the same basic on-off controls with an automatic shutoff, along with a warning light, for when the water tank is full. It’s also deceptively quiet, especially when you consider the above average capacity. At 33dB, it’s quietier than many dehumidifiers that don’t come close to matching this one in terms of capacity.
I would be more than happy to pay a little extra for this superb compact dehumidifier. If you take the customer reviews seriously, you’ll see that most folks agree. This is a quality product with truly amazing specs. They offer an unconditional 90-day return and a 1-year warranty on the Hysure portable dehumidifier. Of the best rated compact dehumidifiers in this review, this would be my personal pick of the bunch.
