Best Electric Snow Shovels That Won’t Break Your Back

Back in grandad’s day, clearing snow from your porch, stairs or walkways was an arduous and cumbersome task. People had to spend hours toiling with a shovel every time they had to clear the snow. Fortunately, that’s a thing of the past. These days we use an electric snow shovel to do the same job in a fraction of the time and with a lot less effort. Let’s face it, there are a lot of things we’d rather be doing than shoveling snow on a cold winters day.

A tough workhorse is the best way to describe the Toro Power Shovel. The specs on this model are pretty average and so is the price.

What makes the Toro Power Shovel one of the best is its durability and the really cool handles that give it a comfortable grip.

A 7.5A motor gives this corded electric snow shovel the power it needs to move up to 300-pounds of snow per minute and blow it 10-feet away.

The cutting width (12-inches) and depth (6-inches) is in the same region as most other electric snow shovels. They also have a larger model with a 15-inch clearing path propelled by a 12A Power Curve electric motor.

The Toro Power Shovel weighs 12.5-pounds and the telescopic handle with plenty of padding on the two gripping positions, make it a very easy tool to use.

This electric snow shovel provides you with all that you’ll need at a very competitive price and has a 2-year warranty.

Snow Joe garden tools feature highly on many best of lists. This is mainly because of their quality and affordability. If you’re in the market for a cordless electric snow shovel and don’t want to pay the earth for it, the Snow Joe iON 13SS is going to brighten your day.

The 40V 4.0 AH lithium-ion battery is used in a lot of Snow Joe tools, this means that you can interchange the battery with several other models.

These batteries are renowned for delivering good power for extended periods of time, meaning that you can get up to 50-minutes run time, using this battery in the Snow Joe iON13SS. This battery powers a 500W brushless motor that combines efficiency and power with perfect balance. The Snow Joe iON13SS is able to plow through 300-pounds of snow per minute and discharge it up 25 feet away, whilst clearing a path that’s 13-inches wide and 6-inches deep.

Although the GreenWorks 26022 is the most expensive corded electric snow shovel reviewed here, it is cheaper than most in its class. For one thing, it has the widest clearing path of the all the others that we’ve listed among the best electric snow shovels.

The GreenWorks 26022 clears a path that’s 16-inches wide and 6-inches deep.

The 14-inch auger has an excellent design and is propelled by a powerful 10A electric motor, sending the snow flying up to 20-feet away and moving an incredible 600-pounds of snow per minute.

It has a wide handle that resembles that of a lawnmower and this gives you great control over the machine. The GreenWorks 26022 electric snow shovel is bulkier than the others, because of this handle design and larger auger, this means that it will require a larger area for storage, a slight disadvantage of having a larger machine with a wider handle. It’s also quite a bit heavier than the others at 26-pounds. Then again, it’s a fairly large electric snow shovel with a greater clearing capacity.

The GreenWorks name is respected by many homeowners across the country and this recognition is well-deserved. They’re well-made machines and are designed to make your life easier. The 4-year warranty that you get on the GreenWorks snow shovel, is way more than what is offered by any of their competitors.

4. Snow Joe 323E 13-Inch 10-Amp Electric Snow Shovel

This is the cheapest electric snow shovel here and certainly has the specs to stand proudly amongst the best. That’s a Snow Joe hallmark – quality to rival the best at a price that anyone can afford.

The10A electric motor gives it enough power to rival the best electric snow shovels in its class. This gives the two blade auger fantastic performance stats.

It will move up to 400-pounds of snow per minute, clearing a path that is 13-feet wide and 6-inches deep. It will be blasting the snow about 20-feet from the auger.

The handles are well-designed and can be adjusted. Though I’d say that this one area where the Snow Joe 323E displays a hint of cheapness. The handles don’t look as comfortable as some of the more expensive electric snow blowers. At a weight of 13.8-pounds, the handles will be quite forgiving – it’s not a difficult machine to operate.

The Snow Joe 323E is worth every penny of its affordable price tag and is covered by a 2-year warranty.

Buying an Electric Snow Shovel

A snow shovel will typically clear a path of about 12-13 inches (some may be a little wider) and will remove a layer of around 6-inches of snow. This means that an electric snow shovel isn’t the best for clearing heavy snow from a 50 Ft driveway, you’d be better off using a snow blower for large tasks like that. An electric snow shovel will, however, get into places where a snow blower can’t fit, making them an indispensable tool during the winter months.

An electric snow shovel isn’t too heavy and is quite compact, making it a convenient and simple tool to use and store. They are usually made from plastic and use a plastic auger to churn up snow and then blast it away from the area of that you’re clearing. Because they are not very complicated machines, choosing the best electric snow shovel isn’t a difficult task. You want something that’s affordable yet of a decent quality standard.

One of your main decisions is whether to go for a corded or battery-powered electric snow shovel. Corded models are cheaper but cordless models are much more versatile. In the end, it comes down to how much you want to pay for an electric shovel. With so many models out there, it’s going to take you hours to compare them all and find the best electric snow shovel, that’s perfect for your needs. This is why we’re here to help make things simpler for you.  In this review, we looked at both corded and cordless options. All of them are great machines and are worthy of the title best electric snow shovel – it’s really a matter of which one suits your needs and your wallet.
